Access Statement for Merlin House Holiday Apartments
Introduction
Merlin House has 2 holiday rental apartments:
- Applegarth is the ground floor apartment and is therefore accessible for wheelchairs, although in the apartment itself there is limited wheelchair space.
- Guinnevere is a first floor studio apartment, approached by outside stair. It is not suitable for disabled access.
Pre-Arrival
- Please ring a day or two before arrival to let us know your approximate time of arrival. On most occasions we will greet you on arrival; otherwise you will be informed where to collect the key to your apartment.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
- Merlin House has two clearly marked signs on either side of the driveway
- There is ample car parking space at the front of the house. There is level access to the apartments at the back of the premises. Applegarth is the ground floor apartment and has one step into the porch area. Guinnevere is approached by 16 steps on the outside of the building. It has its own balcony area outside its front door.
- The drive and pathways are of tarmac. There are no drop curbs to get to the apartments.
- There is ample sensored lighting which comes on at night.
Main Entrance & Reception
- There is no reception area as each apartment is self contained. Extra keys are available on request.
Laundry
- The laundry room is at the side of the building and is approached from the front, going through the gate on the left had side of the building.
- There is one step into the laundry room.
- There is one front loading machine and one drier provided for guests' use.
- The light switch is on the left hand side of the door.
- The laundry room will be open between 8.30a.m. and dusk.
- Guests are responsible for their own washing.
Bedrooms
- As the Applegarth apartment is on the ground floor, the bedrooms can be accessed by wheelchairs, although there is limited space in the apartment for wheelchairs.
- The Guinnevere apartment is not suitable for wheelchairs.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC
- Neither of the apartments have en-suite facilities.
- Both bathrooms are easily accessed in the apartments.
- Both have baths with showers over with mixer taps, toilet and wash hand basin (Hot and cold taps).
- Floors are covered with vinyl flooring. Both are provided with bath mats.
Self-Catering Kitchen
- Applegarth's kitchen is approached through a single door off the lounge on a level surface.
- Guinnevere's kitchen is separate from the open plan lounge/bedroom and has no door.
- Both kitchens have hot and cold taps, the water is heated by the gas central heating system. Work surface and sinks are of normal height. They both had electric ovens, microwaves, fridge, freezer, electric toaster, and kettle. Cooking utensils are kept in the cupboards under the worktops and on shelves over.
Gardens & Outside facilities
- There are steps down into the main garden, although in front of Applegarth there is level access to a small lawn. There is one step down onto Applegarth's patio area. There are loungers in the garden plus garden table and chairs for each apartment.
- Applegarth's are on the patio outside the apartment and Guinnevere's outdoor space is on the first floor balcony.
- There is a hot tub/Jacuzzi for guests' use. Children must be supervised at all times.
Additional Information
- There are smoke detectors in each apartment, these being tested at each change over (at least weekly).
- A cot and high chair is available for hire at an extra cost of £5 each per booking.
- Small/medium well behaved dogs may be accepted, if this is mentioned at time of booking. Guests are expected to bring their own pet bedding/bowls etc. Pets are not permitted on the furniture and when in the garden must be kept on a lead at all times. They must be exercised off the premises. Dogs are allowed on the beach throughout the year.
